We have had Subversion in place for years now with about 8 repositories. We haven't really updated any Subversion versions as the system has been humming along quite well without issues. However, the server is a Windows 2003 server with 2GB of RAM and it's time to start looking into a machine replacement as the server is getting slow and the repositories are now at 125 GB of disk space, which lead to these basic questions.
1) First thing we will be doing is getting another server (vm) with more resources and server 2008 placed on it. Should we install a newer version of Subversion onto it first, or migrate(copy) over the existing Subversion\files and then worry about an upgrade?
2) What is the easiest way to find out our current version and the best way to update this rather old version?
3) Being that much of this 125 GB of current repository is old tags, I would assume a cleanup of this would be in order before any export. PLease advise on best practice.
Please list any other gotcha's or considerations we may want to be aware of as it has been quite awhile since we've dealt with any maintenance on this system.
Thanks!
